Something a little bit different!

by Majestic Commercial

It is always good to try new wines outside of our Commercial range so this week I wanted to share with you my top picks. All of these wines are a little bit different but all are ones I have enjoyed recently.

Chapel Down Brut N/V

This wine I opened for Christmas day this year and was a perfect alternative to entry point Champagne having been made using Champagne method. It was crisp in style with citrus and yeasty flavours and for £17.99 incl. VAT offered great valued.

Gavi di Gavi, La Toledana

This Italian white has been one of my favourite wines since I joined Majestic in 2005, the balance of fruit to acidity is just right. With flavours of peach and pear. Every time I try this wine I am never disappointed. It is currently retailing for £9.99 incl. VAT and if you have never tried this Gavi di Gavi it comes highly recommended from me.

Kanonkop Kadette

From one of South African top wineries comes this great blended red wine. Although I have had this wine plenty of times I had it again for a BBQ we had in January, yes January, our neighbours think we are nuts but yeah. It was the perfect match with my char grilled fillet steak. It has flavours of black current, mocca and dark chocolate. This wine normally retails for £10.99 incl. VAT.

Mothers Day Special

by Majestic Commercial

The pick of our fizz selection to toast your mum on Mother’s Day this Sunday has to be the Undurraga Brut. This sparkling wine is from Chile’s Maipo Valley and has lovely hints of lime grapefruit and stone fruit. It is currently on a smashing offer at £5.49 (£4.58 ex VAT). This is going to be on offer until 23rd April so is available throughout Easter as well.

The WSTA (Wine Spirit Trade Association) recently called upon the Chancellor to stop another duty rise which is expected to be announced at this month’s budget.

Click on the link below to see their arguments as to why the duty paid on alcohol should be made fairer for an industry that generates £37 billion a year!

A Trip to Breganze

by Majestic Commercial

By Jay Rodger - Business Development Manager

Having recently toured Northern Italy for a few days i can only say positive things. Beautiful scenery , fantastic weather , great people and most importantly spectacular wines. My experience with Italian wines has often  been limited but since i have returned i find that these are now my first choice , Soave and Amarone in particular.

I spent the majority of my time in  Breganze, an ancient centre of grape cultivation in the province of Vicenza in the Veneto. The finest wines of the area have been sent to the market in Breganze for centuries and from there they were shipped to many parts of the country. In the second half of the 19th century, the vineyards of the zone were practically destroyed by phylloxera, which made its first appearance in the country precisely at Breganze. When the vineyards were replanted the addition of Pinot Bianco , Piont  Nero, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties provided local growers with great choice and immediate satisfaction.

A truelly amazing place and one i can only highly recommend.
